As we already know, the Air Quality Management Plan created for Georgia’s central zone will be completed by the end of 2025. By this time, the Georgian government must have fully implemented all activities included in the plan.
In the previous material, we introduced you to the activities to be completed by June 2024. According to the action plan, 22 activities remain to be completed by the end of 2025. Here is the complete list of these activities:
Activities to be completed by the end of Quarter II:
Activity 1.2.6: Implementation of emission control for cargo vehicles on international roads in the central zone.
– According to the activity, at least one inspection point must be opened.
– The responsible body for implementing this activity is LEPL – Land Transport Agency.
Activities to be completed by the end of Quarter IV:
Activity 1.1.2: Intensifying supervision over compliance with requirements established to reduce particulate matter emissions in construction and dusty construction materials storage-distribution processes.
– For Rustavi, this activity will be considered completed upon conducting 90 inspections.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.1.3: Increasing the number of inspections of enterprises in the central zone.
– Regarding Rustavi, at least 80 inspections must be conducted under this activity.
– The responsible body is Environmental Supervision Department.
Activity 1.1.4: Improvement of road surface in the central zone.
– In Rustavi, 134,000 m² of roads should be paved or restored under this activity.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.1.5: Increasing the length of wet-cleaned streets in Rustavi.
– Under this activity, streets must be wet-cleaned annually for at least 5,000 km in length.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.1.7: Planting seedlings for partial forestation of Iaghluja Mountain slope adjacent to Rustavi.
– According to the plan, 1,000 trees should be planted under this activity.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.1.8: Eliminating firewood use in rehabilitated/newly built preschool institutions (kindergartens) in Marneuli municipality by switching to cleaner energy.
– The responsible body is the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.
Activity 1.2.1: Setting up additional pedestrian infrastructure in the central zone.
– In Rustavi, sidewalks should be renewed on 60,000 m² area.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.2.2: Improvement of cycling infrastructure in Rustavi.
– Under this activity, new bike paths should be arranged on 6,500 m² area, and at least 45 new bicycle parking points should be installed.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.2.3: Rehabilitation/improvement of municipal bus stops in the central zone.
– For Rustavi, at least 58 stops should be rehabilitated/improved.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.2.4: Installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Rustavi.
– According to the activity, 8 additional charging devices should be installed.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.2.7: Implementation of automotive fuel quality control in the central zone.
– According to the activity, at least 20 samples of fuel (gasoline, diesel) should be taken annually in the central zone and laboratory analysis conducted.
– The responsible body is Environmental Supervision Department.
Activity 1.2.8: Placement of new green plantings in the central zone.
– Regarding Rustavi, 3,350 trees should be planted.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.2.9: Creating new recreational zones and rehabilitating existing ones in the central zone.
– Regarding Rustavi, at least 3 new recreational zones should be created and at least 4 recreational zones rehabilitated.
– The responsible body is Rustavi Municipality City Hall.
Activity 1.3.1: Expansion of automatic air quality monitoring network in the central zone.
– The activity envisages placement of at least 4 new stations (in Rustavi, Bolnisi, Gori, and village Tazakendi).
– The responsible body is LEPL – National Environmental Agency.
Activity 1.3.2: Increasing the number of gravimetric air quality monitoring devices in the central zone.
– The activity envisages placement of at least 4 new gravimetric devices in Rustavi, Bolnisi, Gori, and village Tazakendi.

Activity 1.3.3: Development of air quality model for the central zone.

Activity 1.3.4: Conducting research on determining the share of particulate matter pollution in Rustavi.

Activity 1.3.7: Development of indicators compendium for assessing the impact of air pollution on public health.
– The responsible body is LEPL – L. Sakvarelidze National Center for Disease Control and Public Health.
Activity 1.4.1: Implementation of awareness-raising activities on environmental issues, including air protection.
– The responsible body is LEPL – Environmental Information and Education Center.
Activity 1.4.2: Preparation and distribution of informational materials related to air protection topics.
– The responsible body is LEPL – Environmental Information and Education Center.
Activity 1.4.3: Conducting training on environmental issues, including air pollution, for various target groups.
– The responsible body is LEPL – Environmental Information and Education Center.
