\"\"Today, on April 26th<\/sup>, we attended the public deliberation of the scoping report on the arrangement and operation of the slag and scrap processing workshop of “Rustavi Steel” LLC in Rustavi City Hall.<\/p>\n

The deliberation was attended by representatives of the company, National Environmental Agency, Rustavi City Hall and City Council. We are glad, that representatives of the city council are actively involved in public deliberations.<\/p>\n

As usual, information about the deliberation was reported to the public in advance (see the post<\/a>)<\/p>\n

“Rustavi Steel” LLC plans to place and process more than 100 tons of non-harmful waste per day in the slag and scrap processing workshop.<\/p>\n

Placing more than 100 tons of non-harmful waste per day means placing the waste from metallurgical enterprises (slag, dust from dust collection systems) and construction waste for processing in the enterprise.<\/p>\n

As of today, “Rustavi Steel” LLC is processing non-harmful metal-containing slag on the slag heap, that they own. This includes mechanical separation of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, slag crushing and sorting into fractions.<\/p>\n

On the slag heap, metal-containing fractions obtained as a result of slag crushing and sorting, are used to supply the electro-steel smelting workshop of \u201cRustavi Steel\u201d LLC with raw materials, while non-metallic fractions are sold as construction materials. The slag and other non-harmful waste generated in the steelworks will be returned to the mentioned slag dump for disposal and processing.<\/p>\n

The planned activity does not take into account the change in the technological processes taking place at the slag heap, only in the amount of waste brought into the enterprise for processing will increase. The amount of waste brought into the enterprise per day exceeds 100 tons and goes up to to 800 t\/day.<\/p>\n

Let us remind you, that the company had already submitted an EIA report on the mentioned project once, however, in order to clarify certain issues, the agency suspended the administrative proceedings and the deadline for making a decision on the EIA has expired, therefore, the activity is now going through the scoping stage again.<\/p>\n

As the representatives of the company mentioned, “Rustavi Steel” LLC will also receive waste from other companies for processing; In addition, it should be noted, that only non-harmful waste will be accepted on the territory and they must be examined in the laboratory, before being brought for processing.<\/p>\n

Another issue that was clarified at the deliberation is that self-monitoring does not apply to this activity, since it is mainly an unorganized source of dispersion.<\/p>\n

As for producing the construction material with metal-containing fractions obtained as a result of crushing and sorting (for which the operation of a new 35 t\/h electric steel melting furnace is envisaged in the production) is already the second part of the given activity and will be specified in the EIA report.<\/p>\n
