\"\"On the 5th<\/sup> of June the civil movement \u201cGavigudet\u201d arranged a demonstration – \u201cthe last chance\u201d, which started with marching from the famous construction of \u201cpyramid\u201d.<\/p>\n

One of the most important activity during the demonstration was the possibility for the civilians to write their concerns and demands; as a result, \u201cGavigudet\u201d sent the joint letter<\/a> with the annex of signatures of 324 citizens to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.<\/p>\n

It should be noted, that previous time the similar letter sent separately by the 20 civilians was ignored by the ministry, however we put a huge hope that your support and active involvement will end up successfully and by the 20th<\/sup> of June we will have the detailed schedule and dates of installing filters, as well as legislative obligatory self-monitoring system for each factory.<\/p>\n

Demands of the civil movement \u201cGavigudet\u201d are following:<\/p>\n

– Enforcement of the legislation, entered into legal force 1 year ago (June 1, 2021).<\/p>\n

By the law, that came into force on June 1, 2021 15 factories became obliged to install continuous self-monitoring system for the emissions of harmful substances from stationary sources. As of April 14th<\/sup>, only one factory out of 15 is operating according to this law (not to even mention the filters, that was always obligatory, but most of the plants in Rustavi do not have them).<\/p>\n

– Detailed schedule and dates of installing filters and self-monitoring system for each factory to be published by the Ministry.<\/p>\n

– To increase the involvement of civil sector while meeting with the representatives of the plants; and rise the accountability to the population.<\/p>\n

– To enhance the efficiency of the air quality improvement working group (including Rustavi City Hall to timely execute its responsibilities).<\/p>\n

– To increase controlling of the plants by increasing the frequency of unscheduled inspections. (The most of the 76 inspections carried out to 44 plants, in 2021 was scheduled. Scheduled inspections do not reveal the real situation and data, that is why unscheduled ones are crucial).<\/p>\n
